Postdoctoral Fellow Position in AI for Psychiatry: LLMs and Multimodal Foundation Models

The Stanford Translational AI (STAI) in Medicine and Mental Health Lab (PI: Dr. Ehsan Adeli, https://stanford.edu/~eadeli) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow to join our team. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of AI and mental health, utilizing advanced large language models (LLMs) and multimodal foundation models to address critical challenges in psychiatry.

Position Overview
The fellow will work closely with our multidisciplinary team to develop and apply AI models that combine insights from text, image, and behavioral data, contributing to groundbreaking work in psychiatric research and clinical application. This role will be instrumental in advancing our understanding and treatment of mental health conditions through innovative AI approaches.

Responsibilities

  • Lead projects focused on applying LLMs and multimodal models to support psychiatric diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment personalization.
  • Design and implement novel algorithms that integrate multimodal data sources such as clinical text, images, and video data for mental health assessment.
  • Collaborate with clinical experts and research scientists to translate AI models into impactful tools for psychiatric care.
  • Drive the publication of high-quality research in top AI and healthcare journals and conferences.

Qualifications

  • PhD (or nearing completion) in a relevant field, such as Computer Science, Biomedical Data Science or Engineering, Neuroscience, or AI. MD-PhD applicants with trianings on AI applications are encouraged to apply. 
  • Proficiency in large language models (LLMs) and multimodal foundation models is essential.
  • Background in psychiatry, psychology, or mental health is highly desirable; experience in clinical or healthcare settings is a plus.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, with experience in frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Experience in computer vision and healthcare applications will be advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and strong publication record in relevant fields.

Preferred Experience

  • Familiarity with mental health data types and psychiatric assessment tools.
  • Awareness of ethical considerations in AI for mental health.
  • Strong communication skills, with an ability to bridge AI and clinical expertise.
